Termination Notice Removal
A Termination Notice is a notice placed on your credit reference file, often by direct mail companies or store card companies. Mail order companies can terminate your account as a bad debt, if you don't keep up to date with payments. If they choose to do so, they will requst a Termination Notice be placed on your record for all to see. They don't have to notify you that they've done this either. You may have had a mail order account which required you paying small monthly payments to maintain the account, but these can be forgotten about or cancelled. And, as such companies don't send out regular reminder letters like many other creditors, this is easily done.
Unfortunately, Termination Notices can diversely affect your credit rating once they appear on your credit reference file. Click here to find out more about repairing your credit history.
In order to get a Termination Notice removed you need to get consent from the mail order company/creditor.
Request your account balance from the company who's added the Termination Notice. Ask if they can remove the notice from your record if you pay off the balance.
Send the amount agreed to bring the account up to date to the company with an SAE. Request a confirmation letter from them to confirm receipt of your payment and to confirm their action of removing the Termination Notice from your credit file.
Write to the credit reference agencies enclosing a copy of your confirmation letter, asking them to update your credit reference file and remove the Termination Notice accordingly.
You can obtain a further copy of your credit reference file direct from the credit reference agencies to check it has been updated.
